Important 2019-2020 Pre-Registration Information
Published by Barbara Ratledge on March 11, 2019

Dear Parents,
It’s time to start thinking about the 2019-2020 school year and we will begin registering students on March 13, 14 and 15. Counselors have already reviewed students’ transcripts and registered most of them for their required courses. On March 13, 14 and 15 they will log into their PowerSchool accounts and select their electives and some alternate elective choices during second period. Once that is complete, you will be able to see all their courses through the student or parent portal on PowerSchool. 2019-2020 Course Selection Guide

You will be able to change the elective choices until the end of March from home. If you want to change one of the required choices (for example, from honors to standard level,) the counselors will be available throughout the entire lunch hour in the fish pond to make adjustments during the week of March 18. You can also email your child’s counselor and request changes.

Mr. Davis is not available during this time. With our large student population and only three counselors available, we are asking that parents do not call to request changes or come in during this time frame. You will be able to see when your change is made through either PowerSchool portal.

Students who live out of district and are here on special assignment, employee assignment, EC assignment or through AOIT will not be able to register until their paperwork for reassignment is completed and the Student Assignment Office places them in our student pool. Students in one of our academies or in an application-only course like yearbook, athletic training or SGA will not be able to select these electives through the general form. They will need to speak with that group’s faculty director and that teacher will provide counselors with appropriate course placements for them. They should go ahead and select other electives which we will drop later.

Placements in honors and AP courses are based on grades and test scores. We look at overall GPA, grades in the previous subject area courses and previous test scores. Counselors will review final grades at the end of the year and make 2019-2020 course adjustments as needed. Another change this year is that paper copies of the Course Selection Guide are only being provided to rising 9th graders. You can find an online copy on the main page of the Cumberland County Schools website and the Pine Forest High School website.

We are very appreciative of your patience and cooperation and we plan for another great year in the forest!
