Cumberland County Schools is proud to announce that long-time educator Sheila Sochovka, who is an Exceptional Children’s (EC) teacher at several district schools, was recently named a North Carolina Educator of Excellence by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction’s Exceptional Children’s Division. “Ms. Sochovka has a heart for children,” said Dr. Pamela Adams-Watkins, the executive director of CCS’ Exceptional Children’s Services. “She is an advocate for children … She is always thinking of innovative ways in which to engage her students in her social skills lessons from the use of technology to hand-made games. The Governor’s School of North Carolina is a five and one-half week summer residential program for academically or intellectually gifted high school students, integrating academic disciplines, the arts, and unique courses on each of two campuses.
