Students from PFHS selected for NC Governor's School 2017The Cumberland County Schools’ Academically Intellectually Gifted (AIG) Program is pleased to announce that the following Pine Forest High School students have been selected to attend the 2017 session of the NC Governor’s School:

Arington D (Social Science)
Ellin H (Social Science)
Portia W (English)
Daniel S (Math)

The Governor’s School of North Carolina is a five and one-half week summer residential program for intellectually gifted high school students that integrates academic disciplines, the arts, and unique courses on each of two campuses (Salem College in Winston-Salem and Meredith College in Raleigh). The curriculum focuses on the exploration of the most recent ideas and concepts in each discipline, and does not involve credit, tests, or grades. The Governor’s School is the oldest statewide summer residential program for academically or intellectually gifted high school students in the nation.
Congratulations for this great accomplishment!

Image of a ViolaPine Forest High School recognizes Erin H for earning 1st Chair Viola (Principal) in the  Eastern North Carolina String Orchestra this past weekend.  She competed against 24 other violists in this orchestra for this top honor.  This 1st Chair represents the most talented violist in this orchestra.

Lizzy HadleyOn Saturday, January 16, several hundred high school orchestra musicians from across Eastern NC auditioned for seats in the Eastern NC Regional Orchestra.  This orchestra represents the highest level of achievement for a high school musician.  Lizzy Hadley was placed in the viola section of the Eastern NC String Orchestra.

The orchestra will rehearse at the NC School of Science and Math during the weekend of February 19-21 and perform on Sunday, Feb. 21.

Congratulations to Pine Forest High School senior Julian Veney on recently being selected as the 2016 Fayetteville Area Omega Talent Hunt winner. In the spring, Veney will represent the Fayetteville and Fort Bragg Chapters of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., in district competition during the 2017 Mighty Sixth District Annual Talent Hunt in Greensboro.

Pine Forest No 1 singles player Kelcie F was named the Mid-South 4-A Conference’s Player of the Year for 2016.  The freshman was the lone Cumberland County player to reach the NCHSAA 4-A state tennis championships.

 

 

 

Image of PFHS Girl's Tennis Coach Jarod BrittAlso, Trojans’ coach Jarrod Britt was named the league’s Coach of the Year. In his second season as head coach, the Trojans went 9-0 in Mid-South play, claiming the program’s first conference title in decades.
